Google Street View Guy Walked 500 km to Capture All Obscure Corners of Thailand

Изображение
The Street View function on Google Maps is incredibly useful, and many of us have even seen one of the company cars cruising through the neighborhood, capturing the thousands of shots necessary to make this feature operate. However, for spots that are a little more difficult to access with an automobile, Google has come up with a way to continue on its quest to document the globe: strap a special backpack, complete with a 360-degree view camera, onto an adventurous traveler and send them on their way. In Thailand, tri-athlete Panupong Luangsa-ard is the man to thank for 150 photographs showing places of interest all over the country that were recently added to the Google database. For the past two years, Panupong has trekked through the Land of a Thousand Smiles, criss-crossing over rice fields, beaches, and forests to get some amazing shots. According to a Google representative : "While collecting just the tea plantations and strawberry fields, he burned through four pairs of

Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Zaha Hadid (1950-2016)

Изображение
We’re greatly saddened by the passing of Zaha Hadid  today. She was a true visionary in the world of architecture. Her innovation as both a woman  and an architect is not lost on the massive number of people she’s sparked a sense of creativity in and the countless people her legacy will continue to inspire. Today, we mourn the loss of a legendary individual, but also celebrate her fantastic life’s work. My Modern Met has held Hadid in high regards, much like the rest of the world. As such, we’ve found ourselves in awe of the stunning designs she’s had a hand in developing. Join us in taking a look back at some of our favorite work by the one and only Zaha Hadid. Tiny Charms Play Tribute to Cherished Classic Books

Изображение
These wearable charms by  Charmed Books are modeled after classic novels, so you can string replicas of your favorite stories around your neck and carry the characters close to your heart. The designs feature beloved literary masterpieces like The Little Prince , Charlotte’s Web , and Mary Poppins , but the pieces can also be customized to feature your preferred pages and quotations. Each one is handmade to order in the US with materials sourced through Etsy, including brass and silver, textured paper akin to early book bindings, and weather-proofed images. When possible, they’re based on first-edition illustrations and covers, scaled down to one-inch tall, as tiny testaments to the titles’ historic legacies.
The makers are a pair of antique enthusiasts who say that their passion is to give new life to “beautiful, forgotten vintage pieces of art and workmanship and bring them to a brand new generation to love.” With their creative charms, they do just that, combining age-old boo

Macro Photos Reveal Magnificent Details of Peacock Feathers

Изображение
These psychedelic images may resemble man-made fabric weavings or coiled chains of iridescent beads, but in fact, they’re close-ups of exquisite biological beauties: peacock feathers. They’re the work of Waldo Nell , a Canadian software engineer and photographer who unites his passions for science and nature though the lens. To create the mesmerizing series, Nell placed peacock plumes underneath an Olympus BX 52 microscope and captured hundreds of individual shots at different focal distances. Using a digital processing technique called stacking, he layered those takes together to make the final photographs, which expose nature's capacity for dazzling intricacies that normally go unnoticed by the human eye. We'll never look at birds the same way again. Waldo Nell:  Website | Flickr via [ Colossal ] from Featured Posts - My Modern Met http://ift.tt/1Tli2tz
