Sershul Tekchen Dargyeling སེར་ཤུལ་ ཏེཀ་ ཆེན་ དར་ གྱེ་ གླིང་ Founding (1759) > Monks 1255 •Religious Sect > Geluk སེར་ཤུལ་དགོན། > ser shul dgon > Sershül Gön Sershul Tekchen Dargyeling སེར་ཤུལ་ ཏེཀ་ ཆེན་ དར་ གྱེ་ གླིང་ is an important monastery of the Gelukpa School, located 20 km west of Deongma, on the right side of the road. This is currently the largest monastery in Sershul county, with 1200-1300 monks divided into six colleges, under the guidance of the youthful but charismatic Drukpa Rinpoche. The rain retreat festival held in August is a magnificent spectacle, attracting nomad communities. The hills and grasslands around the monastery are sparse and spacious. The complex was founded as a branch of Chunkor but soon outgrew the latter. The recently restored buildings at Sershul, which are all near the motor road, include the Tsokchen (assembly hall), the Jamkhang (Maitreya temple), the Gonkhang (protector temple), the Dewachen Lhakhang (Amitabha temple), the Mentsikha...

Black Redstart (Phoenicuras ochruros). Full frame image. Best viewed at 2048 pixels for fine detail. The Black Redstart is a very rare breeding bird in the UK. I was granted permission to use a private courtyard: fortunately a white van drove into it and parked. There were some security railings stored against a wall so I dragged the railings out alongside the van in the hope that this bird would drop down and use the railings as a perch. A few seconds after dragging the railings out, the female dropped down. This is a style image I first tried to achieve in 2006 with spotted flycatchers but was unable to pull off (through my lack of experience). Crossword Puzzle Day is recognized every year on December 21. On that day in 1913, British-born journalist Arthur Wynne published the first modern crossword puzzle — a diamond-shaped word game — in the Sunday edition of the now-defunct New York World. In honor of Crossword Puzzle Day this year, INSIDER spoke with professional puzzlemaker Brendan Emmett Quigley, whose puzzles have been featured in The New York Times, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, and more, since 1996. He also posts new puzzles every week on  his website , categorized into three difficulty levels: easy, medium, and hard. According to Quigley, hard crossword puzzles often test your mind's ability to be "elastic," to manipulate or "play around with the English language."
