Images: Images courtesy of Cherish, Geneva Press Release: In an informative blog post, London’s Courtauld Institute of Art speculates that one of the earliest examples of an artist’s signature, in its own collection at least, is Bernardo Daddi’s Polyptych: The Crucifixion and Saints (1348 AD). At the bottom of this multi-panel altarpiece is a line that translates to: “In the year of our Lord 1348, Bernardus, whom Florence made, painted me.”1 There are numerous examples of artists signing artworks in Ancient Greece and Rome. The classicist Jeffrey M. Hurwit writes of a very early handwritten artist’s autograph inscribed on the base of a kouros (650–600 BC) by the sculptor Euthykartides. It reads: “Euthykartides the Naxian dedic...

Artist:  Eliza Douglas Venue:  Air de Paris, Paris Exhibition Title:  Lord of the Fucking Wasteland Date: June 20 – July 30, 2020 Click here to view slideshow Full gallery of images, press release and link available after the jump. Images: Images courtesy of Air de Paris, Paris. Photos by Marc Domage.  Press Release: As well as being the title of Eliza Douglas’s upcoming exhibition at Air de Paris, Lord of the Fucking Wasteland is the message you can read on one of the paintings on show. All the pictures in the exhibition are taken from photos of illustrated T-shirts. Presuming that the Lord in question is to be taken as an alter ego of the artist herself, the «subjects» she rules over are the fictive inhabitants of this derelict territory: the subjects of paintings based on cropped photos of tees printed with zombies, vampires and superheroes. These paintings aren’t «hers» in the sense of being pure products of her imag...

Images: Images courtesy of Wschód, Warsaw Press Release: This is a collection of unrealized exhibition proposals – half-baked half-ideas and future ruins collapsed on top of each other. Since the number of canceled or postponed exhibitions has reached infinity, we are emancipated from the future. We ought to use present as a future tense and at the same time allow number of artists to decide how exhibitions will look like. Cherish the faith in fiction and speculation along with the need to conjure the future. It is a compilation of projects that may look best on paper, proposals ...
